46 Statistics on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in 2023

46 Statistics on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in 2023

Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important part of everyday life. AI is being implemented absolutely everywhere, and is already replacing certain professions. Designed to simplify life and automate repetitive tasks, AI today offers a host of features that go beyond this framework. 🤖

But artificial intelligence is an extremely broad topic. It's therefore difficult to learn all about it, as the subject is so vast. Here, we're going to present you with several key statistics and figures so you can understand the impact of AI in 2023.

Artificial intelligence: impact on businesses

Businesses of all sizes are at the forefront of the adoption of artificial intelligence. The aim is primarily to save production costs and automate tedious, repetitive tasks. Here are some interesting statistics on AI and business.

The global artificial intelligence market is valued at $136 billion. (GrandViewResearch)

👉 Growth of 1400% is forecast for the next 7 years.

👉 By 2030, this market should be valued at over $1.81 trillion.

👉 In 2018, the market generated just $10 billion annually.

By 2025, 97 million people will be working in the field of artificial intelligence.

83% of companies say AI is their priority for the coming years. 👀

AI can have a huge impact just with simple use. For example Netflix generates over a billion dollars in sales a year just by using AI to recommend films and series to its subscribers.

45% of companies believe that artificial intelligence will improve remote work productivity. 💻

44% of companies that have implemented AI see a drop in production costs.

👉 9 out of 10 companies believe AI will boost sales in the coming years.

👉 54% of corporate executives believe AI will improve their productivity.

👉23% of companies use AI for their customer service. (SalesForces)

👉 Using a chatbot can reduce the cost of customer service by 30%.

Corporate adoption of AI

When we talk about artificial intelligence, we're also talking about adoption. And yes, as powerful as a machine is, if nobody uses it, it's useless.

That's why observers are keeping a close eye on AI adoption by businesses and individuals alike. 🔍

Depending on the continent, we can see that companies are either adopting artificial intelligence faster or not.

We can see that North America and Europe are the two continents that are using or plan to use artificial intelligence the most in the next few years.

But despite the advances in artificial intelligence, adoption is still low in some sectors.

Here is the percentage of companies by sector using at least one artificial intelligence feature (machine learning, content generation, etc.) (oreilly.com) :

- Technology 👨‍💻: 17%

- Finance 💸: 15%

- Health 🩺: 9%

- Education 👩‍🎓: 7%

- Public service 🏤: 6%

- Telecom📱: 5%

- E-commerce 📦: 4%

- Media 📰: 3%

At the same time, we note a wide disparity in the budget allocated to artificial intelligence depending on the sector:

As you can see, tech and finance companies are the ones with the biggest budgets allocated to artificial intelligence and machine learning software in particular.

Why aren't companies embracing AI? 🤔

Thanks to the survey conducted by oreilly.com, we can determine the reasons why companies are not adopting AI and machine learning. Among the main reasons, here are those that stand out the most:

- Lack of knowledge on the subject and/or difficulty in recruiting experienced people
- Lack of data or poor-quality data
- Difficulty knowing in which context to use AI
- Lack of IT structure
- Corporate culture does not recognize the need for AI
- Use of AI presents legal risks

The survey asked companies about the main risks that may arise from the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning:
- Lack of ethics and fairness
- Degradation of the business model
- Lack of transparency
- Privacy issues
- IT security breaches
- Unplanned expenses

Artificial intelligence and employees

60% of employees say their company uses at least one feature related to artificial intelligence. 52% think their company will use it in the future.
Why are companies using AI?
- To prevent the risk of computer attacks
- Help employees make strategic decisions
- Create different scenarios through simulations
- Automate recurring tasks

Two-thirds of employees believe that investment in AI by their companies will increase over the next few years. 🏦
👉 52% of companies have increased their AI budgets following the COVID-19 crisis.
Among companies that have strongly adopted AI, here are the main benefits:
- Creating a better buying experience (notably by presenting recommendations)
- Improving decision-making
- Innovate existing products/services and create new ones
- Save on production costs
- Increase productivity

Another reason for companies to adopt AI is machine learning.
According to Verta Insight, 63% of companies intend to increase their machine learning budgets over the next few years. 📈

👉 The aim of companies using machine learning software is to improve business decisions, reduce costs, etc.

Artificial intelligence and employment

One of the biggest fears about artificial intelligence is that it will replace humans. Many people are afraid of losing their jobs to artificial intelligence.  💼
By 2030, almost 10% of job vacancies will be in new technologies.

Nearly half of human resources managers believe that AI will have an impact on the nature of future jobs in their companies.
60% of jobs include at least 30% of tasks that can be automated by AI.
👉 From a global perspective, 30% of hours worked could be automated by 2030.

Artificial intelligence and consumers

7 out of 10 people understand what artificial intelligence is.
👉 40% of consumers know that Amazon or other big sites use AI.
When we think of artificial intelligence, we generally think of automation through software or robots. 🤖
👉 53% of consumers think of robots when they hear artificial intelligence...
👉 40% think of self-driving cars.
25% of consumers think they interact with AI at least once a day.
👉 33% in e-commerce. 📦
👉 26% in entertainment. 📺
43% of consumers believe that artificial intelligence can decrease customer satisfaction.
👉 80% of consumers would rather talk to a human online than an artificial intelligence.

To provide recommendations to consumers, an artificial intelligence needs to collect data. With this data, the AI will be able to find which product is right for you based on your consumer habits. Generally speaking, these AIs are very precise and always suggest the right product for you, according to your profile.

Yet only 27% of consumers are willing to give access to their private data to get a better customer experience.
👉 48% of consumers think their data is not protected with artificial intelligence.
👉 41% believe AI can help protect their personal data.

But how exactly is AI used by users?
The most common everyday use of artificial intelligence is obviously voice assistants like Alexa and Google Home. 🗣️

97% of mobile users use a voice assistant guided by artificial intelligence. This is particularly true of Siri on Apple devices. (techjury.net)
👉 40% of people who own an electronic device use voice search at least once a day.
